Just a few short miles from Glencoe lies Sanna Bay, the most westerly beach on the British mainland (which also happens to be one of the most beautiful).
Known for its white, shell sand and turquoise seascapes, Sanna Bay feels secluded and tranquil. This beautiful stretch of coastline also offers simply stunning views over to the smaller Scottish islands of Muck, Eigg, Canna and Rum.
There’s no shortage of wildlife around either – including the elusive sea eagle, otters, pine martins and, out towards sea, whales and dolphins are often spotted from the beach.
We’d definitely recommend taking a picnic if it’s a nice sunny day because once you’re there you’ll find it hard to leave.
When you do manage to tear yourself away from the idyllic sands then you could pay a visit to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse which lies just a couple of miles from the beach. You can grab a bite to eat in the coffee shop, enjoy the lighthouse exhibition and, if you’re feeling brave and fit, take 152 steps (plus 2 ladders!) up to the tower room to take in the spectacular views.
